According to the DEA's "National Drug Threat Assessment 2008"... "Cocaine and heroin pose the most serious drug threats in the (NY) region", "Heroin abuse in the region is extensive. The heroin available in the area is among the purest in the nation, drawing an increasing number of abusers, including young adults." What a f*cked-up city.

via BestWeekEver we were directed to Pitchfork's coverage of Broken Social Scene member Dave Newfeld's arrest and beat-down by NY police for a $20 pot purchase last week. dam! what happened to the reports that NYPD was cutting back on the ridiculous amount of time and effort spent on these petty arrests.

"Desperate Housewives" actor Cody Kasch was arrested last night after he was caught smoking a joint outside a Lower East Side bar, police said. Kasch, 18, who plays Zach Young on the ABC drama, was spotted puffing the joint by plainclothes narcotics cops at 11:15 p.m. on the corner of First Street and Second Avenue. Kasch was issued a desk appearance ticket.

looking for drugs in all the wrong places
back in the 80's you could buy decent weed on the streets of NYC. Washington Square was a popular area, we were a fan of the small shops that sold little bags of pot around the East Village. this is no longer the case. the shops we frequented are gone and if you try and buy on street you'll get busted, ripped off or mugged.
all we have to offer is this... there are still many delivery services out there. the key is to getting a referral and phone number. if you're in a bar or at a party and get passed a joint, ask the donor if they "use a service?" it's a pretty innocent question (easy to say "no" to), and if they say "yes", it's a nice lead-in to ask for the number. another suggestion is to try asking the bartender at a bar you hang out in if they have "the number of a delivery service" (if they're cool like that.)
(disclaimer: we don't use a service. and obviously, as much as it pains us, can't hook anyone up out there. could be we're smoking rolled cigs anyway... ;-)
