Like a kid in a candy store
Imagine you love candy. But you live in country where candy is against the law. So you have to buy your candy illegally. And you can only get one or maybe 2 kinds of candy at any given time. And it's very expensive (because it's illegal) so you have to buy a lot of it at once to save money. And sometimes it's not very good candy, or you get tired of having the same candy over and over, but it's all you got.
And then you go to a country where candy is legal! and there's candy stores all over! And they have menus of tons of different kinds of delicious candy. And it's all cheap! And people are enjoying their candy in the open with no fear. This is our analogy for the wonderful world of legal weed that pot smokers find in Amsterdam!!

It's no secret, CityRag Hearts Weed, so of course we've brought back tons of SMOKING photos, tips and stories from our trip...
Our virgin legal drug adventure in Amsterdam began with a list of recommendations from 2 of our knowledgeable friends who have visited many times. Nico suggested we get a map of the coffee shops and go on a scavenger hunt! it was a fantastic idea!! we circled his favorite spots and a bunch recommended by our friend Allegra (and a few other we'd noted online) and ended up with a nice scattering throughout the city. So the plan was that each day when we ventured out to see the city, we would have a side destination to check out.

Here's our notes:
- At our first stop we learned that delicious, exotic, organic grown weed can be purchased for about $7 bucks US a gram! Most weed is either described in terms of being clear headed and uplifting, or strong and deeply stoney. And the selection of hash is fantastic (they are described in the same terms.) It being so cheap (and with our excitement over legal candy!) each day we would get 3 new bags to try - 1 uplifting, 1 very stoney, and 1 hash. We didn’t even come close to finishing it all, but at around $20 a day for the 3 bag selection it was a bargain to have the amazing experience of trying like 20 different items over the 6 days we were there!
- Greenhouse and Dampkring - are 2 shops that have very large extensive menus and weight up a fresh bag for you on the spot (versus prebagged shops.) But some prebagged shops like Homegrown Fantasy and Grey Area have such a welcoming low-key vibe they're better for hanging out in (the people at Homegrown were the nicest we met.)
- Didn’t try any schrooms, we have a bag in our fridge in NYC and schrooms have a little recovery time, so we skipped em. But the Space Cakes are fukcing great!! Loved the pound cake style at Kadinsky. Had a nice thick slice before the symphony began, made the eve extra vibrant (we politely hid our rampant giggles.)
- Try "Ice" a special hash made out of the crystals that fall off the Buds, very tasty and nice high. You can ask for half grams when you want to try something expensive.
- The coffee shops don’t sell pipes generally, but there are cool pipe shops around were you can buy a nice little water pipe for a smoke in your room after an evening out.
- Avoid touristy places like the Bulldog chain. More expensive, less friendly, less quality.
