Completing our trip triptych today... here comes our Top Ten Amsterdam Food Experiences, told in photos!...

In no special order...

1) Coffee & Pastries - every cup of coffee we had was excellent, rich flavorful and freshly made. Same with the pastries, we tried too many, all were great, don't miss the cheesesticks (there are 2 great shops right off the Dam on Damrak)

2) Outdoor Markets - wonderful local delicacies to be found, the best has to be the huge selection of amazing cheeses (our fave was small one at Waag square)

3) Indonesian - wow, so yummy, why don't we have rice-tables in NYC?! (loved Kantijl en de Tiger, so tasty, fresh and cheap! On Spuistraat)

4) Hot Dogs from street vendors - different than the kind of dogs we get here, these are smokier and have a finer not so gritty texture, excellent! Loved the fixen's of mayo, big chunky relish and crispy fried onions.

5) Chocolates - The Dutch make amazing bonbons - who knew!? We tried a few but the best hands down were from Pucinni! All were handmade and heavenly (especially loved rhubarb and lemon grass)

6) Renee's - a coffee pastry stand around the corner from the Krasnapolsky on Damstr., seemed to be open at every hour. So much great stuff. 12 mini pancakes cooked up fresh to order with powdered sugar, butter and maple syrup for $3. Great waffles. Grabbed a freshly toasted cheese and onion bread after a late night out.

7) Mango Shake at Dolores's (on Nieuwezijds near the Dam)- A small street side café that makes wonderful mango yogurt shakes and toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches on homemade bread.

8) Dutch Pea Soup - We had KILLER pea soup at the De Roode Leeuw on Damrak. They heat your bowl first on a little trivet, ceremoniously serve the soup and then keep the rest hot on the trivet (you get 2 bowls!). Has a wonderful smoked sausage cut up in it and it served with homemade brown bread. A heavenly meal, with a glass of beer under $10! And the room is beautiful and historic.

9) Pancakes - we had awesome creep style pancakes all over, the bacon and cheese are to die for.

10) Room Service at the Krasnapolsky - Lots of coffee, a huge basket of croissants, pastries and bread, tower of jams, fresh juice and fruit, yummy yogurt, cheeses. Decadent and divine.

Honorary mention: great street side frites at Verse Vlaamse, fresh juice at the grocery stores and the Dutch have some cool snack foods, on Damrak are 2 shops that sell great baguette sandwiches that are nice for a quick meal, we also had a great fondue meal at a little place near our hotel.
