hot tomato
there’s a reason why you’ll see heirloom tomatoes on the menus of some of the city’s best restaurants right now... they have a rich, deep and bright flavor, and come in beautiful variety of shapes and colors. heirlooms have a had a major resurgence in both the gardening and epicurean communities over the last few years. they’re one of our favorite foods, and call for the simplest of preparations. like an open-face tomato sandwich: a piece of toast, with a smear of mayo and a couple fresh slices on top.

so many great varieties, and each have their own unique characteristics and undertones. one of the most flavor packed is the pink fleshed Brandywine shown below. they’re available at the Union Square green market and other farm markets around the city. but our secret spot for scoring an inexpensive, freshly picked assortment is a little old family farm stand called “Green Acres” in Columbia County about hours above the city (at the Hudson exit off the Taconic, 3 miles west on Rt. 82.) and by-the-way – don’t be afraid of their funny look, the ugly ones are often the tastiest! (and as the pic below shows, once you slice them open, inside it’s another story.)

for the love of Claire!
after all the hot hetero and gay sex we’ve watched week after week herwoman1on Six Feet Under, they let us down with Claire’s lesbian sexcapade (starting at the end of one show and then ending at the beginning of the show the next week.) the whole 5 minute relationship was really poorly written. this quote off the official site reminds us of bad 50’s lesbian pulp fiction

“Claire tries to set the mood for a night of passion with Edie, but even the most romantic setting can't turn her into a lesbian. When Edie again fails to give Claire an orgasm, the two finally agree that Claire isn't gay.”

Hmmm, we’ve seen a few guys that Claire’s been very passionate for fail to give her an orgasm… does that mean she’s not straight? the previews hinted of another classic 50’s lesbian pulp stereotype-storyline to come… Edie the jilted lesbian snaps!

and please, any lesbian who knows what’s up would have taken her time before going down on Claire. the big trick (beyond knowing how a woman’s body works) is building the excitement. holding back and holding back until she begs you to go down on her! (well that and using a couple fingers at the same time.)

anyway – since Six Feet Under left you hanging, here’s our similar, true story. with a more fruitful outcome…

in our mid-20’s in the course of an evenings conversation about sex at our apartment with a close girlfriend (who was 22, straight, same boyfriend for 6 years, from a very religious family, no drugs or alcohol), she reveals that although she loves sex, she thinks she’s never had an orgasm! as the conversation continues, we tell her we’ve been with someone with the same situation. then go into the story a bit and, not in a suggestive way, but more that 20-somethin sex-brag-talk, we say that we “fixed that problem” for them. to which she replies “PROVE IT”

so we did; that night. and a couple more times after that. to be honest, she wasn’t even that hard to get off. as simple as this sounds, it seems she just didn’t know how it all worked. so after a couple weeks of incredibly hot sex we both went back to partners of the same sexual preference. she with a new found understanding of her body and me with a new appreciation for those 2 little words.

dogs have this amazing ability to size each other up on the spot. from our mom’s puppies, to his dog run friends, to pit bulls he meets on the street - all immediately sense that Buddy’s got game (he’s princely, but a tough little MF.) and he knows it.

Chashama today, gone tomorrow
the old Chashama space (they’ve moved) was completely demolished last week as they make way for the building of the Bank of America headquarters going in between 6th Ave and Bway on 42nd St, revealing a crazy painted mural behind the walls…
