War of the Worlds filming outside NYC
love Spielberg and Sci-Fi - so we've been psyched about his remake of War of The Worlds (a 1953 classic where the earth is invaded by beings from Mars.) this weekend in Athens, NY (2 hours upstate) we stumbled on the filming of a big scene!

the production itself actually had a feeling of a horror film, literally taking over the entire town with the perimeters locked down and barricaded by every cop in the county. we had to drive around and break in to pick up our laundry and snapped a couple quick photos. learned the scene being filmed here is an alien attack where people run through the town and to a ferry at the river (a huge ferry was brought in that we could see at the water front) over 1000 local residents are extras in the film. cool stuff. we'll stop back this weekend and try and get closer.
